Optaxis China Edition Privacy Policy
Updated: September 24, 2026 · Effective: September 24, 2026
This policy is available in Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, English and Japanese. If the versions differ, the Simplified Chinese version prevails.
Introduction
Optaxis China Edition (the "App") is operated by Ningbo Optaxis Digital Technology Co., Ltd. (宁波光轴数字技术有限公司, "we" or "us"). It is a photography tool providing photographic calculations, shooting records, equipment management and weather and sky information. The China edition does not offer content publishing, social interaction or instant messaging. In accordance with the Personal Information Protection Law, the Cybersecurity Law, the Data Security Law and other laws and regulations of the People's Republic of China, this policy explains how we handle your personal information and the rights you have.
Please read this policy carefully before using the App, especially the parts in bold. The sensitive personal information involved in this policy is precise location information and the personal information of minors under 14 (the App does not allow them to register). By tapping "Agree" you confirm that you have read and agree to this policy; for processing that involves sensitive personal information or providing personal information to other handlers, we will ask for your separate consent before the related feature is turned on. You may decline to provide the personal information or device permissions needed by optional features; declining does not affect the other features.
1. How we collect and use your personal information
We follow the principles of lawfulness, legitimacy, necessity and good faith, and collect and use your personal information only for the features below. The calculation tools run locally on your device and need neither an account nor any personal information; signing in enables account features such as cloud sync and cloud backup.
- Account registration and sign-in: you can sign in with WeChat or Alipay, and on iOS also with "Sign in with Apple". With your authorization we receive from the respective platform: your WeChat account identifiers (unionid and openid), nickname and avatar; your Alipay user identifier and, if you authorize it, nickname and avatar; your Apple account identifier and the name and email you choose to provide (which may be an Apple private relay address). We use this information to create and recognise your account; you can change your nickname and avatar in the App. We never obtain your WeChat or Alipay password, payment information or friend lists.
- Migrating from the overseas edition (optional): if you have used Optaxis overseas edition, you can start a migration there, confirm which data to move and give separate consent, and receive a one-time migration code (time-limited, single use). After you sign in to the App and enter the code, we receive from the overseas edition's operator (the entity named in the overseas edition's privacy policy), which has obtained your separate consent, your equipment library, shooting logs and plans, film records, client data, cloud backup files and related photos, store them in your account, and process them only within the purposes, methods and types the overseas edition told you about and you agreed to. During migration we send the overseas operator (whose name and contact details are as stated in the overseas edition's privacy policy and are shown on the migration confirmation page) only the migration code you entered and whether the migration completed, to verify it and prevent duplicate migration. This is a provision of personal information outside mainland China, and we will ask for your separate consent to it before you submit the code; if you do not consent, the App's other features are unaffected. You may exercise your rights to access, copy, correct or delete this information against the overseas operator in the manner and by the procedure set out in the overseas edition's privacy policy, or contact us and we will help you do so. No overseas-edition password is transmitted, and we do not provide your account or other information in the App outside mainland China. To prevent duplicate or fraudulent migration, we record the migration result and the corresponding overseas account identifier. Client data, photos and similar items may contain other people's personal information; you decide whether to migrate them and must have a lawful basis to do so.
- Date of birth: when you create an account we ask for your date of birth, solely to confirm that you are at least 14. Users under 14 cannot register. Your date of birth is kept in your account record, is never shown publicly and is not provided to any third party; if it is wrong, contact us to correct it.
- Equipment library: the bodies, lenses, backs, filters, kits and film stock you add are stored on your device; once you sign in they sync to our servers so they stay consistent across your devices and can be restored after a reinstall.
- Purchase price (optional): if you choose to record the price paid, channel, month of purchase and whether you have sold the item, we use it only to produce model-level aggregate figures (median price, price range, number of owners). Your own price is never shown; no price is shown for a model with fewer than 5 contributors. You can delete the entry at any time, after which it no longer counts toward the aggregate.
- Shooting log (optional): the equipment, exposure settings, weather and notes you record (plus film stock, format, development and similar fields in film mode), and any photos you attach. Logs are stored on your device and, once you sign in, synced to our servers; attached photos are uploaded at full size to our object storage and are visible only to you. Original photos may contain EXIF data such as capture time, device and location; we do not parse it or use it for anything else.
- Shooting plans (optional): title, place, date, time slot, notes, equipment checklist and reference cover image. Once you sign in they sync across your devices and are visible only to you.
- Client management (Pro feature, optional): the client names, contact details (such as WeChat ID or phone number) and notes you enter are stored on our servers and by default are visible only to you. You can choose to create a read-only viewing link for a client; anyone who has that link can view its contents, so send it with care. You can revoke a link in the App at any time, and it stops working immediately. You provide this information and decide its purpose; we only store it and show it back to you on your behalf, and never use it for anything else, for profiling or for recommendations. Please make sure you have the client's consent or another lawful basis before entering their information. You can export or delete all client data at any time.
- Cloud backup (optional): files you choose to back up are stored in our object storage and only you can access them. Backups you delete go to a recycle bin and are permanently deleted after 30 days.
- Pro subscription (iOS only, optional): when you buy a Pro subscription through the App Store, payment is handled by Apple and we never obtain your payment account or card details. To confirm and restore your membership and to remind you before renewals, we process the transaction identifiers Apple returns (such as the original transaction ID), the subscribed product, and the purchase, expiry and renewal status, linked to your account.
- Location (optional, sensitive personal information): used to compute sunrise and sunset, weather and light windows for where you are, for map positioning and place search, and to record shooting-position coordinates in Recce (formerly Video Scout; these travel with any recce report you export). When you use these features, your coordinates are sent to our servers to fetch local data; our servers query QWeather for weather and Amap for places, using coordinates or the keywords you enter, with no information identifying you. On Android, map display and positioning are provided by the Amap SDK; on iOS, by Apple Maps. If you turn on weather notifications, your coordinates are saved to your account to generate them, stored at about 1 km precision. If your precise location were leaked, others could learn your movements. We process location only while you use these features, and ask for your separate consent the first time you use them (in addition to the system location permission); if you do not consent, the other features are unaffected. You can turn off location permission in system settings at any time; you will then need to choose places manually.
- Camera (optional): used for framing, metering and negative scanning, only when you open those tools. Frames are processed only on your device and are stored only when you choose to save them.
- Photo library (optional): when you pick photos for your avatar, negative scanning or log attachments, we read the album list and thumbnails while the picker is open so you can browse; only the photos you select are used or uploaded, and the rest never leave your device.
- Push notifications (optional): to send you shooting-window reminders, weather notifications and service notices, the Android version integrates the JPush SDK (including phone makers' push channels) and the iOS version uses Apple Push Notification service. This requires processing a push identifier (such as the push registration ID), device identifiers (on Android: Android ID and OAID), device model, operating system version and network status. Notification content does not include your precise location. For how the iOS version provides the push token and notification content to Apple, and the separate consent for it, see "Where we store it". You can turn off notifications in system settings at any time.
- Device information: to keep your account secure and the App working properly, we process your device model, operating system version and an app-instance identifier. We do not ourselves use advertising identifiers for advertising or profiling; the push SDK integrated in the Android version may read Android ID and OAID to deliver notifications (see the appendix). We do not read your text messages or list of installed apps.
- Signed-in devices: when you sign in we record the device model, OS version, sign-in time, last active time and a city-level location derived from your IP address (the IP address itself is not stored in the signed-in device records). This powers the "Signed-in devices" page, where you can see which devices are signed in to your account and sign any of them out remotely. These records are kept for 90 days.
- Network logs: to keep our network secure and as required by the Cybersecurity Law, our servers record access logs, including IP address, access time, the endpoint requested and the result.
- Light Points and invitations (optional): we record how you earn and spend Light Points. When you invite someone with an invitation code, or register with someone else's code, we record the invitation relationship to grant rewards and prevent abuse; the inviter can see the invitee's nickname and avatar on the invitation page.
- Feedback (optional): the text and up to 3 screenshots you submit are used only to handle the issue you report; you can delete your own feedback.
- Device sensors: the AR viewfinder processes compass and gyroscope data locally in real time for astronomical overlays; it is not uploaded.
- Language preference: your interface language setting is stored locally on your device.
- Analytics and advertising: the China edition does not enable any third-party analytics, crash-reporting or advertising service, and does not do personalised recommendations or targeted notifications.
Under Article 13 of the Personal Information Protection Law, we may process your personal information without your consent where it is: (1) necessary to conclude or perform a contract to which you are a party; (2) necessary to fulfil statutory duties or obligations; (3) necessary to respond to a public health emergency, or to protect a natural person's life, health or property in an emergency; (4) processed within a reasonable scope for news reporting or public-opinion supervision in the public interest; (5) personal information you have made public yourself or that has otherwise been lawfully made public, processed within a reasonable scope as permitted by law; (6) otherwise provided for by laws or administrative regulations.
2. Device permissions
We request the permissions below only when you use the related feature. You can decline or turn them off in system settings at any time; declining affects only that feature.
- Location (approximate and precise): weather and light-window calculations, map positioning, place search and recording shooting positions in Recce (formerly Video Scout). Your coordinates are sent to our servers to fetch local data; if weather notifications are on, they are saved to your account at about 1 km precision.
- Camera: framing, metering and negative scanning, only when you open them.
- Photos: browsing your albums when you pick photos for your avatar, negative scanning or log attachments; only the photos you select are used.
- Notifications: shooting-window reminders, weather notifications and service notices.
- Other: network access (online features), network state (checking connectivity), vibration (haptic feedback) and exact alarms (so long-exposure timers and shooting reminders fire on time). These permissions do not involve your personal information.
3. Entrusted processing, provision to others, transfer and disclosure
- Entrusted processing: we engage Alibaba Cloud to provide cloud servers, databases and object storage; QWeather (Hefeng Internet Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd.) to provide weather data; and AutoNavi Software Co., Ltd. (Amap) to provide place search and reverse geocoding. Our servers send them only coordinates or search keywords, with no information identifying you. We agree with each processor on the purpose, method, duration and safeguards of processing and supervise their activities.
- Third-party SDKs and sign-in platforms: to provide maps, notifications and third-party sign-in, the App integrates third-party SDKs and, with your authorization, exchanges the necessary information with WeChat, Alipay and Apple. The name, provider, purpose and personal information handled by each SDK are listed in the appendix "Third-party SDK list".
- Provision to other handlers: we do not sell your personal information. We do not provide it to other personal information handlers except: (1) the third-party SDKs listed in the appendix and the WeChat, Alipay and Apple sign-in platforms, which collect or receive the information listed in the appendix directly after we have obtained your separate consent through a pop-up or authorisation page the first time you turn on the related feature (such as turning on notifications or choosing to sign in with WeChat or Alipay); (2) with your separate consent; (3) as required by law or by a competent authority.
- Transfer: if your personal information must be transferred because of a merger, division, dissolution, bankruptcy or similar event, we will tell you the recipient's name and contact details and require the recipient to continue to meet the obligations of this policy; if the recipient changes the original purpose or method of processing, it will obtain your consent again.
- Public disclosure: we do not publicly disclose your personal information unless you give separate consent or the law requires otherwise.
4. How we store your personal information
- Where we store it: personal information collected and generated within the People's Republic of China is stored in mainland China, on servers and object storage in Alibaba Cloud's mainland China regions. Except for the iOS system services below and the migration verification described under "Migrating from the overseas edition", we do not provide your personal information outside mainland China. To provide push notifications and "Sign in with Apple" on iOS, our servers must send the push token, notification content and the Apple sign-in token to servers of Apple Inc. (contact details at apple.com/legal/privacy), which may be located outside mainland China; you can exercise your rights to access, copy, correct or delete this information against Apple Inc. through the means described on that page; notification content does not include personal information such as your precise location. We will ask for your separate consent to this before you turn on notifications, choose Sign in with Apple or submit a migration code. Should we ever need to provide other personal information outside mainland China, we will inform you, obtain your separate consent and complete the statutory procedures such as a personal information protection impact assessment.
- On your device: preferences, language, caches, and offline copies of your equipment library and logs are kept on your device.
- How long: we keep your personal information only for the shortest period necessary for the purpose: account information, date of birth, Light Points and invitation records, subscription transaction records and migration records until you close your account (except transaction records we must keep by law); equipment, logs, plans, client data and feedback until you delete them or close your account; deleted cloud backups stay in the recycle bin for 30 days and are then permanently deleted; weather-notification coordinates until you turn weather notifications off; push identifiers until you turn off notifications or close your account; signed-in device records for 90 days; network logs for six months, after which they are deleted. To prevent data loss we back up our databases regularly (daily backups kept for 30 days, monthly backups for 12 months): deleted information is overwritten when the backup cycle expires, and until then we only store it with the necessary security measures and do not otherwise process it. After the relevant period we delete or anonymise the information, unless the law requires otherwise.
- If we stop operating: should we cease operating the App, we will stop collecting your personal information, notify you by announcement or similar means at least thirty days in advance, and delete or anonymise your personal information once operations end.
5. How we protect your personal information
We protect your personal information with measures including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), row-level access control in our database, least-privilege access and access auditing, and we have set up security management practices with reference to China's Multi-Level Protection Scheme for cybersecurity. Please note that no security measure can guarantee absolute security.
If personal information is or may be leaked, altered or lost, we will take remedial measures immediately and, as required by law, notify you and the authorities responsible for personal information protection of the cause, the possible harm, the remedial measures taken and what you can do to reduce the harm.
6. Your rights and how to exercise them
- Access and copy: you can view your profile, equipment library, logs, plans and client data in the App, and export a copy of your personal information under "Me → Data & backup".
- Correction and completion: you can edit your nickname, avatar, equipment and records in the App; for information you cannot edit yourself (such as your date of birth), contact us.
- Deletion: you can delete equipment, logs, plans, client data, cloud backups and feedback yourself. You can also ask us to delete your personal information where the purpose has been achieved, cannot be achieved or is no longer necessary; where we stop providing the service or the retention period has expired; where you withdraw consent; or where we have processed it in breach of the law or our agreement.
- Withdrawing consent and turning off permissions: you can turn off location, camera, photos and notification permissions in system settings, and withdraw your consent to this policy under "Me → Settings → Withdraw privacy consent". After withdrawal we stop processing the related personal information and account features (such as cloud sync and cloud backup) become unavailable, while the calculation tools that need no account remain available. Withdrawal does not affect processing carried out on the basis of your consent before it.
- Closing your account: you can apply to close your account under "Me → Settings → Delete account". A 15-day cooling-off period follows, during which signing in again cancels the request; after it ends we delete or anonymise your personal information promptly, and in any case within fifteen working days; information in backups is deleted when the backup cycle expires, as described under "How long" above. This is subject to any contrary legal requirement. Closing your account does not cancel your App Store subscription; please first turn off auto-renewal on your iPhone under "Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions".
- Lists of personal information and SDKs: under "Me → Settings → Privacy compliance lists" you can view the personal information we collect and the third-party SDKs we use.
- Explanation and portability: you may ask us to explain our rules for processing personal information; where the conditions set by the national cyberspace authority are met, you may ask us to transfer your personal information to a handler you designate.
- Automated decision-making: we do not make decisions with a significant effect on your rights solely through automated decision-making, and we do not do personalised recommendations.
- Rights of close relatives: after a user dies, their close relatives may, for their own lawful and legitimate interests, exercise the rights to access, copy, correct and delete the deceased's relevant personal information by the means set out in this policy, unless the deceased arranged otherwise during their lifetime.
You can also exercise these rights by writing to support@optaxis.cn. For security we may first need to verify your identity, and we will reply within fifteen working days of verification; reasonable requests are in principle free of charge. In the circumstances provided by law (for example where a request directly concerns national security, public security or a criminal investigation, or there is sufficient evidence of bad faith or abuse of rights), we may be unable to act on a request, and will tell you why.
7. Minors
The App is intended for users aged 14 and over. Minors under 14 may not register; we check age by date of birth at registration, and anyone under 14 cannot complete it. Before a minor under 14 uses the tools that need no account (especially features that use location), they should obtain the consent of a parent or other guardian. Minors aged 14 to 17 should read this policy and use the App under the guidance of a parent or other guardian. If we discover that we have collected personal information of a minor under 14 without a guardian's consent, we will delete it as soon as possible. Guardians with any questions can contact us as set out in this policy.
8. Changes to this policy
We may revise this policy from time to time. We will not reduce your rights under this policy without your explicit consent. For material changes (for example to the purposes, methods or types of personal information processed, to our processors or recipients, or to our contact details), we will notify you prominently, such as with a pop-up the next time you open the App, and obtain your consent again where required.
9. Contact us
If you have any questions, feedback or complaints about this policy or our processing of personal information, or wish to exercise your rights, please contact our person in charge of personal information protection:
